Whether your office is in a building that you commute to everyday or tucked within the confines of your own home, one fact remains unaltered that you need to keep it clean. You spend more than 40 hours a week in the office and you’re doing the work twice as hard. It’s no wonder that by end of the week you’ll be searching under the piles of paperwork for your cell phone and car keys.
A clean work space definitely makes for a clear head, but who has the time to organize the work load? So, setting up proper system and sticking to it can do the trick. That will help you work smart while you work hard. It can also help make a good impression for you when your boss decides to make an impromptu visit to your work space. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to leave him/her standing there while you shuffle through the mounds of paperwork to find a file he/she needs.
Here are a few tricks to help you get started.
File as you go
Even though the task may seem daunting but the key to keeping your office clean from clutter is to properly store it. One strategy is to digitalize as many documents as you can, as electronic files don’t take physical space. If your office is more dependent on paper, then the key is to process the paper as you go. You can also set up a system of trays or file folders that are clearly labeled, and make it a habit. The same goes for your computer desktop as well.
Clean your electronics
Keeping your electronics clean can improve the life and function of your office. So, make sure to dust the outside of all the electronics. You might as well have a technician clean the inside of the electronics as well. So, head down to your local store, pick up some wipes that are specifically made for your electronics, and make it a point to wipe your monitor and keyboard daily. Not only will it help keep the dust away, it will also keep the germs at bay.
Don’t eat at your desk
Eating at your desk can be very unhealthy. As your work desk is not sterile in the same way that the environment for eating should be. And on top of that it can be damaging to your mental and physical health as well. Make sure that you eat in the designated area in order to keep both your mind and desk clear.
A place for everything, everything in its place
The key to making office cleaning easy is to put everything in its right place. So, this means that you need to assign a place for everything and make sure to label it, so you can find it in a pinch. Once you get in the habit of putting things away, decluttering becomes a quick task that’s second nature.
Put yourself in client’s shoes
Walk through the office with the eyes of your client. This can also be a task that you can give to your employees. You can have the other employees walk through other departments with the critical eyes of a client. Not only will it help you better to know how to clean the office, it will also give the employees a chance to participate in the cleaning process as well as interact with other departments.
If these tricks seem too troublesome, hire professionals. Not only will they complete the job on time thoroughly but then it will also keep you from getting on your coworker’s back for not cleaning on time or neglecting it.
