Having a clean carpet is more than just healthy. It can also help to prolong the life of the carpet. And if you have just installed a carpet, I’m pretty sure you are aware of the expenses involved in doing so. If it is well maintained, it can help you get rid of the allergens, prevent other carpet beetles and carpet bugs. Also, it can help to add value to your home, and keep the home odor free as well.

Keep your carpets looking their best, by following these simple tips for basic care, deep cleaning, and stain removal.

Blot stains, don’t rub them

Don’t rub the stains; it will only make things worse. Rather, dab the stains with a cleaner and a clean towel, paper towel or a sponge. The trick is blotting. Blotting puts a small amount of pressure on the stain to soak it up. On the other hand, if you just rub, it will just cause the particles to get ground into the carpet fibers and, this can lead to premature breaking down of the fibers.

Try shaving cream

They aren’t just for removing hair.

Yup, you heard it right; shaving creams can be your best friend, if you want to get rid of general stains on the carpet. So, what you need to do is apply the shaving cream on the stain and let it set for about 30 minutes. And after the shaving cream is set, just blot the stain away with a dry clean cloth. You can also finish by spraying the area with one part vinegar mixed with one part water, and wiping the solution with a clean cloth.

Heat wax

Burning candles in the house can result in dripping wax all over the carpet, where it dries quickly and gets embedded. Yeah, we have all been there done that. So, to remove it, the best way is to heat it back up. Place a white cloth over your iron, then put the iron on the top to warm it up. Finally, finish off by scraping the wax with a butter knife.

Warning: Don’t use the iron this way for more than 30 minutes or you will risk burning the carpet. And make sure to use a white cloth or a white towel, since the colored ones can transfer the color once it’s heated up, especially if you have a light-colored carpet.

Clean pet accidents organically

Because shit happens!

Sometimes, even the well-trained pets can cause accidents on the carpet. I would recommend using organic cleaners that you can find for cheap rather than the expensive chemicals. Spray the cleaner on the strain; you might also need to do some scrubbing. Then wipe out the cleaner with a clean cloth or a towel. Organic cleaner that costs about $10 per bottle can be used for these kinds of stains including coffee and sauce stains.

With these easy and simple ways to clean your carpets, your household tools and items are enough to do the job, so that you don’t have to spend a lot of time and money on cleaning small stains.
